ABOUT ME

A curious creative pursuing the parallels between music and data science.
From the early days of creatively rearranging files on my family's computer to programming calculators in high school, my fascination with technology and problem-solving has been a constant companion. This curiosity didn't just follow me; it led the way, weaving through my 12-year journey as a musician and composer, and now, it flourishes in my role as a data scientist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As a musician who performed across the globe, I found joy in the art of creation, meticulously crafting melodies and harmonies to resonate with diverse audiences. This craftsmanship translated seamlessly into
my work as a data scientist. The process of composing - structuring a piece, balancing elements, and creating something meaningful - mirrors the analytical and creative approach I employ in data science.
In my current role, I have developed and implemented data science methodologies, utilizing Python, Tableau, and R, to analyze public datasets from sources like the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and CDC. My work involves not just technical prowess with data engineering, integrating and managing large datasets, but also a deep understanding of how to present these findings in an accessible way.
My contributions range from designing data-driven solutions and interactive dashboards to co-authoring national reports on public health. This work demands a blend of technical skills and the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively, much like how a composer collaborates and communicates with musicians.
In leading projects and engaging with stakeholders at the University, I've applied my interpersonal skills honed as a musician to foster collaboration and present data insights to a non-technical audience. My approach to data governance and management reflects my commitment to precision and excellence, ensuring high data quality and adherence to best practices in data security.
Looking forward, I am excited to continue exploring the parallels between music and data science, applying my unique blend of skills to drive innovation and discovery. As a data scientist, my journey is about composing with data, creating symphonies of insights that have a meaningful impact on our understanding of the world.
